Master of radiation therapy
PRO is one of two training facilities in Western Australia running the Monash University Master of Radiation Therapy degree program. The aim of this program is to contribute to the radiation oncology community by supporting the education of WA radiation therapists. Since starting the training program in 2002, the first cohort of trainees have all found employment as radiation therapists, and the second and third cohorts are on their way. PRO also provides support for students about to graduate from the program in Kuala Lumpur.

Continuing professional development
The aims of PRO's continuing professional development program are to support the ongoing learning of radiation oncology professionals, and to strive for continuous service and quality improvement through ongoing development and education.
So far, the program has been expanded to include over 100 events every calendar year with increasing attendances on an ongoing basis, and the implementation of an annual education seminar (2006 marks the 5th such event). PRO has had success in receiving funding grants from a number of sources for CPD activities and events.
Employees at PRO can expect opportunities to attend seminars in a wide variety of topics, including safe work practices, recent scientific developments and innovations in patient care, and research methods (including multivariate statistics and research design). Support is provided for employees wishing to attend external conferences applicable to their work. The annual education seminar provides staff the opportunity to share their research findings with their colleagues.
Medical specialist training
PRO is proud to provide opportunities for doctors wishing to undertake specialist training in radiation oncology. Our facilities at Royal Perth Hospital allow us to employ registrar trainees both within the general training program and those wishing to specialise. Many of these registrars go on to become consultant radiation oncologists employed at PRO.
